HIERARCHY
(Drawing by David Hockney. source: 1stdibs.pinterest.com)
In this drawing made by David
Hockney we can see concept of hierarchy. The drawing actually looks like
sketching because of that the drawer used just one type of colour and drawed by
just pencil. Even if the drawing was made with only one colour we can easily
catch the idea of drawing and understand it thanks to hierarchy. For instance
In this drawing there is a couch in
front of a window. we can distinguish
which are in the room and which are out of the room by quality of lines. Also
easily understand which object is frontal. Sequence of lines, sharpeness of lines,
thichness and thinness of lines makes the message of drawing readable. For
instance in this drawing I can distinguish frame of window from the view of
trees, even if they are overlapping each other. Since the quality of lines is
more sharpe and clean for frame because it is more frontal but the things on
far made by more flu and dirty lines. So, this differenties makes the viewer
get the idea of which is more important in drawing and follow the flow of
importance. For instance althought curtain and couch are both drawed by similar
tecniques viewer is still able to understand which one is more important couch
or curtain.
